Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener – Huge setback for Dedryck Boyata in Germany

It’s strange how some players make it obvious they can’t wait to leave Celtic and seem to think great things are destined for them at a new club. In a lot of cases it’s starting to look like they weren’t magnificent individuals and it was actually the club who elevated their status.

Players like Stuart Armstrong, Adam Matthews and Joe Ledley all looked desperate to make moves down south and have pretty much disappeared. Dedryck Boyata was another one who tired to force his way out, and it’s not gone too well for him so far.

He ran down his contract to get a move to Hertha Berlin. Obviously the Bundesliga is a bigger league, but Hertha are an average lower mid table side who will rarely compete for anything. He’s only managed six games since moving due to injuries as well.

It looks like things have got even worse for him after The Sun reported that he had suffered a pretty serious groin injury. There’s no definite timescale been put on him at this point, but it does sound like it will be a pretty long term injury.

Obviously the injuries can’t be directly attributed to making that decision to move, they could occur anywhere, but it just shows yet again that the grass isn’t always greener once you move away from Glasgow.

Stuart Armstrong might try and tell you otherwise, but then his most recent appearance came as a substitute with his team already 7-0 down. I’m sure at that moment he was really delighted with his choice to join Southampton.
