Southampton set price for Fraser Forster

SOUTHAMPTON have set their price for Fraser Forster ahead of an anxious few weeks for Celtic supporters as they wait for confirmation around the 32-year-old Englishman.

The Saints are willing to part with Forster for £5m according to a report in the Scottish Sun but their manager Ralph Hassenhuttl is willing to give Forster a full pre-season before deciding his future.

The report claims that Saints sources reckon that he won’t return north but the likelihood is that they will want their third choice off the books and want Celtic to stump up the cash to bring him back on a permanent basis. The clubs have already agreed a deal for Elyounoussi and it will come down to money but Celtic cannot simply fail to re-sign Forster due to the pivotal role that he plays in this Celtic side.

Parallels can be drawn with Forster’s second loan spell back in 2011/12 when it appeared that Newcastle were wanting to retain the keeper to challenge for the first team. Regardless of this public stance, Forster joined the clubs and a lot of transfer negotiations appear to be bluffs and poker faces.

Forster is behind McCarthy and Gunn in the pecking order at the Premier League side and a move to Celtic remains on the cards, especially if he is willing to force the hand of the Saints.
