Special Christmas lunch attended by past and present Celtic heroes

For many, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas markets, various festivities, and some precious family time are all the norm for this time of year. However, for others, Christmas time can be a lonely and tough time.

So, in response, the Celtic FC Foundation has hosted a special Christmas event at Celtic Park, with 150 elderly and socially isolated people. During the evening, the guests enjoyed a three-course Christmas meal, as well as live entertainment. Celtic FC Foundation colleagues took time to ensure that the guests felt welcome and at home, as well as making sure they all had companionship and fun throughout the visit.

The guests were joined by the current Celtic defender, Carl Starfelt, as well as former Celtic players, Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea. The trio joined in with the festivities, engaging with the guests and handing out Celtic FC Foundation Winter Warmer packs to the guests in attendance.

The Winter Warmer packs, which were funded by Celtic FC Foundation, consisted of an electric heated throw, a food and essentials supermarket voucher, a hot water bottle and some chocolate kindly donated by Cadbury.

Carl Starfelt opened up on the importance of the Celtic FC Foundation by saying…

“The work of Celtic FC Foundation is really important to us all and makes such a positive difference through some brilliant initiatives such as today’s lunch. Obviously, Christmas time can be difficult for so many but hopefully, today’s event will give some really great, deserving people some important help and support and a time they can all enjoy.”

Celtic FC Foundation’s Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton added…
“We’re delighted to be able to once again host Festive Friends here at Celtic Park.“It’s always a fun day and we recognise the importance of days like these for elderly and isolated people living in our local communities. “Hopefully, taking away a Winter Warmer pack will also provide some extra comfort at home for our very deserving guests.”
