Steven McLean to officiate Glasgow Derby with John Beaton on VAR

Steven McLean is to officiate this weekend’s Glasgow Derby, with John Beaton on VAR. A wise man once said “if you’re good enough the referee doesn’t matter” words we should heed going into Sunday’s game.

McLean has been selected to be the man in the middle for Sunday’s Glasgow Derby, with John Beaton tasked with duties on VAR. McLean last took charge of this fixture for a dead rubber at Ibrox in 2023 which theRangers won 3-0 after Ange Postecoglou’s side had already secured the title.

Regardless of who was picked for the vital clash was always going to be under scrutiny, especially if it was Kevin Clancy or Nick Walsh, two favourites among theRangers support I say with a hint of sarcasm.

What’s the best option then? Well just hand the task to the brother of an ex-Rangers player and a man who harbours well known warm feelings for the Ibrox club. Two officials who have also wronged us in the past.

Not that we should go down the route of their delusional supporters. Yes these officials are no friends of ours, but if we play to the best of our abilities we will prevail and get the three points, no matter who is in charge of proceedings.

A famous man once said “if you’re good enough, the referee doesn’t matter” wise words of wisdom and ones we can heed going into Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match at Celtic Park.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.
