Surprise appointment – ex-Celt lands League 2 Assistant Manager role

FORMER CELTIC striker Simon Donnelly has been appointed the Assistant Manager of League 2 side Brechin City. The 45-year-old was most recently the Assistant Manager to Jackie McNamara at English League Two side York City but has been out of coaching work since October 2016.

Now, the former Celtic man will join up with Mark Wilson ahead of the League 2 restart in Scotland as they try and address Brechin’s free-fall since 2018. Back to back relegations were almost followed up with a third, which would have potentially dropped out of the SPFL.

Donnelly was an integral part of the side that stopped the ten in 1998 and during his time at Celtic made 181 appearances, scoring 42 goals. The former Dundee United Assistant will be a loss from helping out with media duties for Celtic TV but it is good seeing a good football man rewarded with another opportunity in football.

We wish him all the best in his new role at Brechin.
