Talented midfielder looks set to finally sign with a club after terminating his Celtic deal this summer

It’s becoming pretty common to see players terminating their deals with a club if things aren’t working out, but it generally means that they have something else lined up.

Everyone is struggling to find work these days and footballers are included in that, so walking away from a contract and not finding a new club can’t have been the plan for Liam Burt.

The talented midfielder has had a strange career at youth level as he bounced between Celtic and the Rangers, but there are comparisons to be made with Dylan McGeouch who did something similar.

It even looks like the duo could end up together at Aberdeen, with The Daily Record reporting that Burt attended their game last night ahead of a possible move.

They confirm that he had been on trial with Sunderland and Barnsley in the summer and it sounds like he did really well, but it clearly wasn’t enough to earn a contract so he’s been a free agent since leaving.

He doesn’t have a great deal of first team experience but he was a regular for Scotland through to U21 level, and it sounds like he left because he wanted to play regular first team football somewhere so you can never blame a player for that.

Aberdeen are strong in the centre of the park so he probably won’t break into the team straight away, but it would still be a decent move for him if he manages to get a deal sorted.
