Tam Cowan on main difference between two Glasgow giants

Tam Cowan has been using his platform on PLZ Soccer alongside Peter Martin to highlight the difference between Celtic and their fierce rivals theRangers. Cowan is an ardent Motherwell supporter as has been well documented but does reserve an opinion for all things surrounding Scottish football more generally.

Never shy in his assessment of both Glasgow sides, his latest comments are actually spot on and will certainly ring true with supoorters of both teams within the goldfish bowl. For he has claimed that the very real and clear dichotomy between Ange Postecoglou and Mick Beale’s men is that the Hoops are far more ruthless in front of goal.

It’s undeniable that the Bhoys have been more potent, as the numbers don’t lie at all. Ange Postecoglou, since he became Celtic boss, recently hit his century of matches in the dugout and it revealed a very worrying trend for the whole of the Scottish Premiership, but more importantly, the newest Ibrox club over the road in Govan.

For in those 100 games in charge of Celtic Football Club, Ange Postecoglou’s team have hit over 250 goals and the games and goals ratio is still counting. It’s been a remarkable achievement for the former Yokohama F. Marinos manager and he will be hoping for more to come as this team evolves.

Cowan highlighted the difference by alluding to the Scottish Cup tie that Mick Beale’s side played against Partick Thistle at Ibrox and really struggled to put to bed. It was also aided by another erroneous penalty claim which was clearly outside the 12-yard box, as Malik Tillman fell outside of the line very clearly.

He’s claimed that if it were Celtic that had been playing against Thistle, they would have taken “six or seven” off of Ian McCall’s men that day. I think everyone apart from the Ibrox support is now coming to terms with the fact that the Premiership Champions are just a better footballing machine than anybody in the country. They’ll catch on soon enough though!

Have a listen to Cowan talk about Celtic’s superior killer instinct below…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. Tam cowen’s comments are true but it’s so important to keep the Celtic feet on the ground, one game at a time, these two massive football clubs must improve away from Scotland,
would be great to break the glass on the goldfish bowel and expand like day’s gone by, hail hail.
