Taste of their own medicine: Celtic confirm there will be no Jam Tarts in Glasgow

Remember Anthony Ralston’s goal against Hearts the other week?

It was an amazing bit of skill from the man who has been subject to the absolute pelter of pelters by Celtic fans throughout his time at the club.

Slaloming his way through the Hearts’ defence, Ralston was shown on to his weaker left-foot, but wasn’t deterred as he calmly curled the ball into the top left corner in Gorgie.

All that descended was a stunned silence.

Not at half of the ground being shocked that Ralston had that in his locker, but the fact that there were actual Hearts fans able to witness the goal as their team were drawn back level. Any goal like that would have usually sent the Celtic away support into ecstasy, but with no Bhoys’ allowed at the ground, they had to witness it through their TV screens.

Heart of Midlothian v Celtic Cinch Scottish Premiership 31/07/2021. GOAL 1-1 Anthony Ralston 56 of Celtic FC runs to celebrate after he scores the equalising goal for Celtic during the Cinch SPFL Premiership match between Heart of Midlothian FC and Celtic FC at Tynecastle Park, Edinburgh.

And in a roles reversed situation, the same is to happen again when Hearts travel to Paradise for the impending Premier Sports Cup tie this weekend.

Parkhead is set to welcome back its biggest crowd yet since fans were allowed back inside the ground, surpassing the 24,500 that watched on with glee at the 6-0 win over Dundee on Sunday.

But, given that Glasgow City Council gave Ange Postecoglou’s men permission to go over the 5,000 capacity cap that Nicola Sturgeon set for outdoor events last week, Hearts fans were hoping to be given any away allocation they could get their hands on.

Yet, due to COVID-19 restrictions, parts of the ground need to be closed off in order to comply with regulations.

Celtic will look to win back the cup they relinquished in agonising fashion last season after losing 2-0 at home to Ross County.

  1. Thought cup games were different in that the away team had to be offered a percentage of capacity?
And is the takings not split anyway for cup games?
