CALLUM McGREGOR spoke for the Celtic squad when he pointed a finger at stay at home central defender Dedryck Boyata and told the Belgian that his team-mates are all disappointed in him for letting them down by refusing to play in this game.
And Brendan Rodgers has also made it very clear that the club regarded Boyata to be fit enough to play in Athens.
Boyata has tried to prove that he was indeed injured by posting a late night video of him receiving treatment while adding a message of support for his Celtic team-mates.
The Belgian is now persona non grata among his team-mates and heaven help him if he was to ever walk out wearing a Celtic shirt again – the pelters would reach epic levels!
“We can only blame ourselves. Obviously, everyone is massively disappointed and it’s a hard one to take,” Callum McGregor said last night after the 2-1 defeat in Athens that means that Celtic are OUT of the Champions League.
“When you dominate over two games and don’t go through, it’s difficult to accept.
“Defensively, we have to do better to stop crosses and put our bodies on the line when the ball is in the box. Over two legs, they played counter-attacking football really well.
“We caused our own problems. No one is pointing fingers. It’s a collective.”
McGregor revealed that the squad was “disappointed” that Dedryck Boyata was not in Athens, but added: “Dedryck’s situation is not for the boys to discuss.
“The way he’s dealt with it is down to him. As a team, we’re just disappointed he wasn’t here.”
