Team’s Up – McGregor given the armband, Karamoko starts

Callum McGregor will captain Celtic this afternoon in the friendly match against Charlton Athletic which kicks off at 3pm. This is the clearest indication so far that McGregor, who scored the only goal for Scotland at the European Championships, is set to be named the permanent Celtic captain replacing Scott Brown who left the club in May to join Aberdeen as a player coach.

The Celtic side this afternoon is Barkas in goals. Ralston, Welsh, Bitton and Taylor as the back four. In modelled the captain Callum McGregor is joined by Turnbull, Soro and Montgomery and the Karamoko Dembele and Albian Ajeti are up top.

Ange Postecoglou will make many changes at half-time, in fact he’ll change almost the entire team. The Celtic side for the second 45 minutes will be Bain, Christie, Johnston, Ntcham, Edouard, Urhoghide, Shaw, Murray, Henderson, Montgomery, Hjelde.

Plenty of scope for changes from the bench against a young Charlton side featuring mostly their under 23 stars.

First Half Celtic Side: Barkas, Taylor, Bitton, Ajeti, Soro, Turnbull, McGregor, Montgomery, Ralston, Welsh, Dembele

Second Half Celtic Side: Bain, Christie, Johnston, Ntcham, Edouard, Urhoghide, Shaw, Murray, Henderson, Montgomery, Hjelde

Here are the two Charlton Athletic sides that will play Celtic this afternoon…
