That’s much more like Celtic, grit and determination, oh and aye, forward passes…
Celtic produced an impressive performance in the first match in the post-Brendan Rodgers by trouncing Falkirk 4-0 under the guidance of interim manager Martin O’Neill and ably assistant his coach, Shaun Maloney.
It was one, if not our most pleasing performances of the season, in every single department. Not only did we look like a side with shape and intensity, we looked a side full of belief and determination, something that’s been lacking in recent weeks.
Martin O’Neill likes his sides to be strong and robust, and despite lacking some physicality in the side, the players put in a gritty performance, giving their opponents no respite at all, an in your faces type of performance which was great to see. Everyone, outside of the sizeable Falkirk support, certainly enjoyed Celtic at long last putting on a show.
The football was clearly more pleasing on the eye. More forward passes, more crosses into the box, and a willingness to shoot on site. It’s amazing what such positive play can achieve eh?
Johnny Kenny for instance had a superb game, scoring twice, due to great service, something he and his other colleagues in the centre forward position have lacked this campaign.
It’s only one game, and it’s, with all due respect, only Falkirk, but it’s a positive start, and a much needed confidence booster heading into Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi final clash with theRangers before a tough away match against Europa League high flyers FC Midtjylland a week today.
Martin O’Neill loved it too. Maybe he’ll even think about seeing out the season before handing the reins over to a younger manager. Beat theRangers and FC Midtjylland and there will be plenty calling for that to happen!
Nice to see Hearts dropping points too but what about that Hibs penalty. Have you seen it? Dear oh dear…
