The Barry Ferguson Files – how it started, played out and ended in tears

How it started…Barry Ferguson, the former Rangers captain told us earlier in the week that his old teammate Giovanni van Bronckhorst had sussed out Ange Postecoglou ahead of today’s first Glasgow Derby of the season.

The former Netherlands international midfielder suffered home and way defeats to Celtic past season that swung the title away from Ibrox and delivered it instead to Paradise. One draw at Celtic Park (1-1 in early May) followed the 3-0 Celtic win at Celtic Park in February and the 2-1 Hoops triumph at Ibrox but that draw suited Celtic more than it did GVB’s side who needed to win to maintain any hope of retaining the title.

Based on that draw and the Bobby Madden-influenced Scottish Cup extra-time win over Celtic in a match where the former Scotland-based referee ignored the rule book to favour his own favourites, presumably realising that it was his final opportunity to do so before heading south of the border, the bold Barry reckoned that the Postecoglou cat was out of the bag. Bold words from the former EBT man…

How it played out…In a dominant Celtic performance, Celtic took around half of the clear-cut chances to win 4-0 with two goals from Liel Abada, a classic from Jota and a comedy goal-den moment that David Turnbull took full advantage of…

How it ended in tears…Barry crying into his beer on Go Radio’s Football show bemoaning this, that and the other and grudgingly accepting that Celtic were all over theRangers in the Glasgow Derby victory that sees Ange Postecoglou – the sussed Celtic manager – stretch his lead to five points at the top of the league looking down on theRangers

Meanwhile apparently there was a clown on Sky Sports today…
