Where Did It All Go So Right? | TCE Tuesday – Episode 76…

Debating where things “didn’t quite click” is an interesting position to find yourself in in the aftermath of a victory which leaves your side two points clear at the top of the league looking down on theRangers and with their 100% start to the campaign fully intact.

Yet that’s exactly where we found ourselves during this week’s recording of TCE Tuesday as we pored over Sunday’s 2-0 win over Hearts.

I think we can all agree that Celtic weren’t at their brilliant best on the day, yet we still managed to secure what was a fairly comfortable win in the end, whilst restricting our opponents to a total of zero shots on target throughout the 90 minutes.

What’s not to be happy about?

Perhaps we were spoiled by last week’s 5-0 demolition of Kilmarnock and our storming start to the season, maybe we were still buoyant about the two points our Glasgow rivals dropped at Easter Road twenty-four hours earlier, or maybe it was the prospect of another afternoon of the high energy, free flowing football we know this Ange Postecoglou side are capable of at Celtic Park.

In truth it’s potentially a combination of all of these reasons which led to the mild disappointment (and I stress, mild!) that we didn’t notch up three, four or even five goals against the visitors on the day.

The standards that this Celtic side have set since Ange Postecoglou took to the training field at Lennoxtown some fourteen months ago have been nothing short of exceptional.

The reclaiming of our title at the first time of asking tells you that, as does the fact that we done so whilst scoring the most goals in the country, conceding the least, and embarking on a 36 game unbeaten league run which remains live at time of writing.

High standards lead to high expectations and it’s only because we have such belief in this group of players that there’s even the smallest hint of disappointment at achieving the result that we did at the weekend.

We’ve been blown away by the consistency of players such as Cameron Carter-Vickers, who along with Carl Starfelt was a mainstay in a defence which lost just twenty-two goals in the full league campaign.

We’ve been dazzled by the trickery of a certain Jota on the wing, ably supported by Liel Abada on the opposite flank who has weighed in with goals and assists aplenty since his arrival.

And we’ve celebrated goals by the dozen as Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis fight it out to be Ange’s “No.9” by hitting the back of the net at an alarming rate.

If this is Celtic having an off day we’d like to know where it all went so right.

Long may the high standards that Ange has set continue.

In this week’s episode of TCE Tuesday we cover that win over Hearts as well as look ahead to Thursday’s Champions League draw as we make our return to European football’s top table. We also preview Sunday’s trip to Tannadice, discuss a novel approach to the away ticketing situation, and much more on this latest episode, brought to you by The Celtic Exchange.
