The Celtic Goalkeepers Receiving Lionel Messi Record-Breaking Bottle Of Budweiser

Last week, Lionel Messi broke Pele’s record of scoring the most goals for a single club, when he found the net for a 644th time for Barcelona. To put that feat into context, Gary Lineker tweeted that to break the record, someone would have to score 43 goals for a single club in each of the next 15 years!

It goes without saying that the achievement is worthy of celebration and Budweiser have seized the moment by deciding to send a bottle of their beer to every goalkeeper Messi has scored against… and a beer for each goal if the keeper has conceded more than once to the magician.

Former Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves won’t have to buy a beer for a while with an incredible 21 bottles being sent to the Brazilian, while Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas is getting 18! The four Celtic goalkeepers getting a drink in the post can be consoled by the fact they’re in good company with those two.

Bottles are en route to Fraser Forster, Craig Gordon, Artur Boruc and Dorus De Vries. Forster produced an incredible performance in 2012, but Messi got the better of him in injury time. However, Celtic won the game and Forster was dubbed “La Gran Muralla” (The Great Wall) by the Spanish press. Gordon and Boruc will be getting a couple of drinks from their respectable defeats, but Dorus De Vries will have three bottles to put in the fridge.

Boruc was between the sticks when Messi scored twice, either side of a Thierry Henry strike, to help Barcelona come from behind twice to win 3-2 in the last 16 of the Champions League in 2008. Gordon was also beaten twice, in a 2-0 defeat in 2016 (one from the penalty spot). Dorus de Vries has the worst record though, with three goals conceded to the Argentine great in the 2016 reverse fixture. Celtic lost that one 7-0 and Messi bagged a hat-trick!
