‘The fans love to follow the club, you can’t ask any more of them,’ Scott Bain

SCOTT BAIN was the Celtic player who spoke to the Media in Romania last night after the Scottish Champions arrived for this evening’s crucial Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round for the Champions League against the Romanian champions Cluj.

Neil Lennon also did his own press conference and we covered this last night – see HERE.

Here’s what the Celtic goalkeeper had to say…

“It’s going to be a really difficult game. They like to work hard and put balls into the box,” the Celtic goalkeeper said.

“We’ll need to strong defensively, and every man on the pitch will need to work hard on the night.

“I think any away game in Europe is a tough one. It’ll be a tough tonight, but we need to go full of confidence from the result we had at the weekend. We come in with a game-plan and hopefully we can stick to that and win.

“For us it’s a case of – if we want to make the Champions League, we need to get through these sorts of ties. We know it’ll be a challenge, but we’re in good shape.”

Bain was also asked about the Celtic supporters who were already in Cluj and enjoying the city, while of course making new friendships along the way.

Celtics confidence is high after the 7-0 win against St Johnstone

“The fans love to follow the club. You can’t ask any more of them, and they always create a brilliant atmosphere, no matter their numbers, and we want to come away with a result for them,” he said..

“Cluj’s style of play is nothing that we haven’t come up against before, but these are ties that you need to win in order to get through to the ultimate prize.

“We need to be prepared to dig in but if we can perform to our highest level then we’ll be in good shape for the home leg,” Bain said at the Media Conference as reported by the official Celtic site.

Here are some of the comments to what the Celtic goalkeeper said in Cluj last night.

“Got a a lot of faith in Bain. Gonna be huge for us tomorrow. Hopefully he steps up again.”

“Bain is a cool cat, but I’d sleep better at night if he stopped trying to nutmeg strikers…”

“Looks like we are playing up in mars or the moon with big astronaut outfits and swirling stages is everyone sure we havent been kidnapped with zombie aliens and Bain and Lenny are hostages with big daft aliens interrogating them.”

“You would’ve thought that reporter who asked if we had the “first chance” would’ve just changed her words after learning she needed to say favourites. no offence i just find it funny come on the hoops!”

“That female journo must be wanting to put a bet on .She asked Lenny the same question.”

Here’s another chance to watch Lenny’s Media Conference from last night…

Meanwhile Matt Corr is in Cluj and will no doubt be submitting one of his fine Diaries of Celtic away from home in Europe – these are always a great read.

For those of us watching on TV, it’s Premier Sports in the Britain and Ireland and Celtic TV for the rest of the world, the game kicks off at 7pm Celtic Park time.
