‘The first half hour was just exactly what Celtic should be all about,’ David Potter

I have always liked going to St Johnstone, A civilised ground, a civilised support and an easy ground to get away from without any annoying delays. Only thing wrong tonight was the rain!

The Celtic performance in the first half was outstanding, of such a kind that very few teams in world football would be able to resist. There was superb passing, speed, tricky footwork and every player giving the impression that he was enjoying himself and wanting to play football and to play for Celtic.

The first half hour was just exactly what Celtic should be all about. The goals were all good – my favourite was that of Griffiths, although that is not in any way to denigrate the other two which were equally top drawer. Full marks to Neil Lennon for keeping playing Edouard and Griffiths together, and my Man of the Match would have been (a surprising choice perhaps) Greg Taylor who made an outstanding contribution to the side.

The second half was obviously an anti-climax. The job was done, and although St Johnstone upped their game a little, they never really came close to scoring. The game petered out, but no-one who saw that first half hour was likely to feel cheated by what they saw. It was Celtic at their scintillating best.

Nice to see such a huge Celtic support there and in good voice throughout.

St Johnstone were perhaps a wee bit cheeky and greedy by putting their prices up, but when you looked at that pitiful home support, you can understand that they need to take advantage of every opportunity! Celtic supporters filled three sides (Almost! There were a few empty seats in the East Stand at the side) and the ground was fuller than it had been for some time.

By any standards, a good night. Pity about Mikey Johnston who doesn’t seem to enjoy the best of luck with injuries, but apart from that, all good. Even Mr Beaton, one would have to say, had a good game!

And now our long list of away fixtures continues with visits to Hamilton, Motherwell and Clyde. Let’s win all three, Celtic!` Hearts did us a good turn on Sunday, but there is no getting away from the fact that we still have to win each and every fixture!
