The imperious Callum McGregor’s stats this season

As the imperious Callum McGregor made his landmark 400th appearance for the club against Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday, the media team have posted the captain’s stats so far this season. McGregor has been injured for quite a but this year unfortunately, so hasn’t managed as many Scottish Premiership appearances as he would have liked his year.

After sustaining an injury against RB Leipzig in Germany back in October during a UEFA Champions League group stage match, the knee injury was a massive blow for Callum, the manager, his teammates, and the Celtic supporters. We had to dig deep without our on-field leader but others stepped up to the plate when needed.

In typical Calmac fashion, he was ahead of schedule in his rehab work and managed to make an early comeback straight away after the World Cup in Qatar. Not only did he make his long-awaited return from injury, he was integral to the team that day against a Jim Goodwin side which was determined to play anti-football. Scoring a cracking goal late in the game to seal the win, he reminded us all just why he is so important to the team.

Moving forward as we push on on three fronts domestically, the captain will be paramount to any success we have this year when it comes to silverware. With a mouth-watering Viaplay League Cup Final at Hampden Park to come next month against our fierce rivals, Callum will be the lynchpin as we fight for another Treble.

Take a look at his stats so far this season…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
