“The nearest I’ve seen to Jock Stein,” Frank McGarvey pays Ange Postecoglou huge compliment

With BT Sport on in the background and watching the latest podcast from Tommy Sheridan and the Celtic legend Frank McGarvey has been an enjoyable way to spend an evening. Tommy opens up with a phone call and details of some great auction prizes that will raise funds to compete the endeavours to build a memorial to an even bigger Celtic legend Willie Maley, as a forthcoming dinner at Celtic Park.

Then the pair’s attention turned to Celtic’s outstanding team performance at Ibrox on Sunday and Frank McGarvey was mightily impressed that this Celtic could give theRangers a goal of a start at a hostile, packed Ibrox and still come back to win the game.

“They went there to Ibrox, it’s a full house with only 700 fans there and they made a lot of noise. They helped the players, the fans did a great job,” McGarvey noted before talking, as he always does, about his own wonderful relationship with the Celtic support doing his own playing days in the first half of the 1980s.

And McGarvey reckons that this Celtic side has one of the most valuable things going for them in football and that’s momentum. He also pointed out that he’s been critical of the Celtic board on occasion but admits that the decision to go out and get Ange Postecoglou “is one of the best moves ever in Celtic’s history” and goes on to describe Ange as “the nearest I’ve seen to Jock Stein,” high praise indeed. “Best choice,”…”perfect choice”… “Absolutely amazing”…just some of the remarks from the former Celtic striker talking about Ange.

McGarvey reckons that Celtic this season are “wonderful to watch” and talks about how his Celtic daft family are all walking around with smiles on their faces as a result of football Celtic is playing. And for McGarvey the real mission for will be next season when sets out to make an impact in European football.

And McGarvey reckons that the treble is well and truly on for Celtic this season.  “Celtic are the best team in Scotland, they gave (the)Rangers a goal of a start and still beat them.”

“The club was on its knees, he’s come in and made everyone happy and I think Celtic are odds on to get a treble this season. Why not? Who is going to beat them? ”
