“The next 6 months are crucial for Celtic” – The Celtic Trust seek meeting with Peter Lawwell

The Celtic Trust today called for an urgent meeting with Peter Lawwell to discuss various matters that the fans group believes cannot wait until the new CEO is in situ at Celtic Park on 1 July 2021.

With today’s formal announcement to the London Stock Exchange that Peter Lawwell will retire from his role as Celtic CEO – a position he has held for 17 years – on 30 June, the attention is turning to a new era for Celtic getting underway. Dominic McKay appears to be a sound appointment as he has down a tremendous job through at Murrayfield leading the Scottish Rugby Union.

However in this transition period the Trust believes that there is a danger of urgent matters failing to be addressed as the outgoing CEO hands over to a new Chief Executive.

“There will be time enough after June to reflect on the tenure of Peter Lawwell as CEO of Celtic PLC but, from our perspective, we believe that the next 6 months are crucial for Celtic and there is a lot of work to be done to recover from our recent decline on the pitch, and some longer-standing problems off the pitch.

“On that basis, we will be seeking a meeting with him as the current Chief Executive, armed with a renewed and strengthened mandate from our members, to put forward our position on what needs to be done,” the Celtic Trust tweeted.

Last week, writing in his column on The Celtic Star, Celtic Trust Chair David Low outlined his thoughts on where Celtic are at the moment and what needs to be done as a matter of urgency to rectify the situation we find ourselves in. The can read his article below.
