“The only place you want to be is smack bang in the middle of it,” Ange Postecoglou

“It’s why you want to be involved here,” Ange Postecoglou told BBC Sportsound, around a quarter of an hour after the final whistle at Celtic Park yesterday afternoon. With the three points in the bag after yet another impressive showing from his side with a 4-0 win over Aberdeen the Celtic Park allowed the focus, to shift as it always does, to the next game and this time it’s a Viaplay League Cup final against theRangers.

“Big games are a consequence and there is a trophy on the line,” Ange noted. “We will enjoy the week and there will obviously be a fair bit of noise around it but that is why you want to be involved in the game, and at the same time the lads understand that we prepare ourselves in the right way and the right manner to be the best we can be on the day and that is what we will do.”

Mick Beale has yet to lose as theRangers manager but he’s not been able to reduce the points deficit in the Scottish Premiership and has watched as Celtic have steadily increased the goal difference advantage with the latest instance of that happening yesterday.

He did have the perfect opportunity to dent Celtic’s nine points lead on 2 January but despite being 2-1 ahead with just five minutes remaining Kyogo got an equaliser for Celtic and that result certainly suited the Champions and League leaders much better than Mick Beale and his players.

“It all adds to the storyline I guess,” Ange said. “It’s a Cup final and you don’t dismiss one because of the opponent you have. Every trophy is hard earned and you don’t take them for granted.

“As you say it’s the two form teams in the competition, two good footballing sides and it will be a cracking atmosphere. The only place you want to be is smack bang in the middle of it.”
