The Warning Letter UEFA Sent Regarding Finishing The Season

Chris McLaughlin has today tweeted a copy of a letter from UEFA, which the governing body sent to national football associations within its jurisdiction.

The BBC sports correspondent uploaded the tweet this morning, which reveals a warning against temrinating the season early. Should associations do so, then it could prevent their clubs from entering next season’s European competitions, which would have a huge financial impact on the teams in the SPFL.

Not only would Celtic potentially miss out on the huge UEFA Champions League revenue if they qualify, but Rangers would miss out on Europa League monies too. Beyond the big two, the rest of Scottish football profit from the performance of other clubs being in Europe, as a bonus is paid to clubs throughout the league.

With that in mind, it looks like the SPFL season will need to be concluded and a null and void scenario does not appear to be on the cards.
