‘They Blinked Once, We Blinked Twice’

Steven Gerrard loves to talk about blinking. It all began with ‘Rangers’ loss to Hearts in the league on 26 January. Gerrard said then that Celtic were waiting for them to blink, and they blinked big time.

Hilariously, Celtic dropped points last night at Livingston, yet were a point further ahead in the title ‘race’ as ‘Rangers’ lost 1-0 at home against Hamilton, who were ranked 28/1 outsiders with some bookmakers! The defeat sees ‘Rangers’ add another record to their collection – the first team to lose against the league’s bottom club twice in a week.

Gerrard’s post match pain was almost as comical as the result itself. He told Clyde Superscoreboard “Celtic blinked with one eye and we’ve blinked with two.” It’s a strange analogy, one that reminds us of the bizzare comments made by the likes of Warburton and Caixinha.

  • ‘The dog barks, but the caravan keeps on going’
  • ‘To give passion to the penguin you must first seduce the goose’
  • ‘I think randomness is a big thing. I learned a lot from our previous owner at Brentford. He’s a mathematician and we learned a lot from him in terms of how he looks at games. The randomness, the ball goes to the back post, Kenny heads it to Jon Toral and it could go in. Joe Garner’ header pops off the goalkeeper, it could go in. Joe in the first-half at the far post is a stud away.’

All these translate to failing in the job, whilst Celtic clean up the trophies – whether it’s being passionate with penguins or blinking with two eyes… and long may it continue!
