“This is the Postecoglou era”, Pundit doubts Celtic first team role for Scott Brown

Davie Provan has said that he doubts that Ange Postecoglou will look to make room for club legend Scott Brown, who left Aberdeen yesterday. The 36-year-old confirmed that he would be leaving Pittodrie after less than a year in the red of Aberdeen.

Brown rejected the chance to remain at Celtic in order to take up a player-coach role under his pal, Stephen Glass. However, following the sacking of Glass and subsequent replacement Jim Goodwin informing Brown that his coaching opportunities would be limited, he made the decision to walk away from the North East.

Provan told Go Radio Football Show that he doesnt think that Celtic will offer a first team role to Brown, given that Postecoglou is already working with a backroom staff that he inherited.

“I’m not convinced that Ange Postecoglou is the type who would give him a position out of sentiment.

“This is the Postecoglou era. There’s a title to be won and he appears to be perfectly happen with the coaching team that he inherited, Gavin Strachan and John Kennedy, Stephen McManus is there as well.

“I don’t think for one minute Ange Postecoglou will be thinking, ‘how do I make room for Scott Brown?’

Brown is likely to be offered a role by Celtic in the club’s Academy as he looks to gain his coaching qualifications. A first team role is likely too soon for Brown at Celtic, the manager has a team that he works well with.

Provan mentioned as he spoke to Go Radio Steven Gerrard’s name but the ex-England midfielder only worked in Liverpool’s Academy after a stint in the USA. This may be an idea for Brown, enjoy some downtime after a hectic playing career while planning his next steps in management. Brendan Rodgers has offered Brown an opportunity to visit him at Leicester City as the offers begin to appear for Brown.
