This Jonny Evans Rumour

Jonny Evans, any truth in the rumours, and is he worth a short term deal?

Jonny Evans, the former Man Utd defender and skipper of Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers is rumoured to be on the radar of his former boss.

Evans will be 36 in January so he’s no spring chicken, but on a short term deal it could make sense. Evans has a wealth of experience ,With over 100 caps for his country and plenty of top level experience with Man Utd. Including champions league experience, indeed he was a winner of that competition as part of the Man Utd squad in 2008.

Celtic are short in numbers at the back and an experienced figure at the back could help out greatly. Whether Evans is a name that could help bridge that gap is another thing.

It’s not a rumour that’s captured the imagination of the Celtic supporters that’s for sure, but will Brendan offer a short term deal to the veteran defender similar to the one he offered Kolo Toure during his first spell. it begs the question, is Jonny Evans worth a short term deal?

Many supporters have also noted that the Ulsterman would probably prefer to play for the latest Ibrox club if he was going to move to the Scottish Premiership.

  1. Rabbie Burns on

In a word, Yes! Very under-rated player and 35 was old for a player in the old days when players drank beer every weekend etc etc .. not so much now as players who live well can easily play up until aged 40. I think would be a great (& cheap) addition with a good dressing room personality for young players to look up to. A no-brainer, for me, if it can be done .. as REALLY don’t want to start the season with Starshite as our main defender if CCV injured as league could be lost before it’s really began.

  2. We’re supposed to be building a team not hashing one together from free transfers. If you waste money it doesn’t last long. So,he plays for one or two games to cover for CCV…then what?
