Three Celtic youngsters earn U21 call-ups

Three Celtic youngsters have been included in upcoming U21 matches for their respective countries. Stephen Welsh has been called up to Scotland’s U21s whilst Luca Connell and Jonathan Afolabi have earned call-ups to Ireland’s U21s.

Elsewhere, Lee O’Connor has earned a call-up to the Ireland National Team. The 20-year-old defender has been on-loan at Tranmere, impressing with his performances in EFL League Two. Afolabi helped Dundee reach promotion play-offs but did not feature in either of the play-off wins over Kilmarnock.

Welsh has been impressive since establishing himself into the Celtic side this season. Welsh first made his debut last season in a win over Hamilton but backed up an impressive debut with solid displays this season, where defensive stability was thin on the ground. Welsh will be hoping to kick on under a new boss, proving that Lennon was right to introduce him into the starting XI. The Coatbridge-born youngster has made twenty-one appearances, scoring once in the win over Motherwell earlier this year.
