Tommy Smith leaves Huddersfield training camp, destination Glasgow? Benkovic’s 10IAR Message

HUDDERSFIELD right back Tommy Smith has apparently said his goodbyes and has left the Huddersfield pre-season training camp in Austria amid increasing excitement that Celtic are about to sign him.

Last night in Sarajevo Neil Lennon played central defender Kris Ajer at right back and kept Anthony Ralston – the only recognised right back currently at the club – on the bench in the 3-1 win over the Bosnian Champions.

Now it looks like Smith will be the next summer signing from Neil Lennon who has already spent £7million on central defender Christopher Jullien from Toulouse, £3million on left back Boli Bolingoli from Rapid Vienna and paid around £350k to Bolton for young Luca Connell.

Now Celtic are expected to have met the price of around £3million that Huddersfield were looking for for the 27 year old who made just 16 appearances for them last season due to various injuries. Smith has played just under 200 games in English football, with two season in the Premier League, so will be an experienced performer for Neil Lennon’s side.

Meanwhile Filip Benkovic has thanked Celtic for allowing him to be part of a very special season while on loan from Leicester City.

“It was a huge honour and privilege to wear the Hoops for a season,” the Croatian defender posted on Instagram.

“This club will always be very special to me. Thank you to my teammates and to the fans for everything. Good luck for the future and historic 10 in a row.”

Doesn’t sound like he’s coming back does it?
