Tomoki Iwata – ‘Dream came true’ as he’s reunited with Ange Postecoglou at Celtic

Celtic’s most recent signing, Tomoki Iwata, has posted on Instagram to send his thanks and farewells to his former club, Yokohama F.Marinos. Iwata also sends his thanks to all of the fans who have been sending him messages of support.

Iwata posted his short message on Instagram shortly after he announced his long-term move to Celtic. The 25-year-old helped Yokohama F.Marinos win the J-League title as the division’s player of the year.

Iwata’s post stated: “Thank you so much to everyone involved in the Marinos for 2 years! I was able to make my dream come true to play abroad. I hope to continue to use what I have gained so far in the next stage, and grow even more! I’ll do my best. Thank you for all the messages!”

Iwata’s post has received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments wishing the Japanese player all the best. Most notably of which came from fellow countryman Daizen Maeda whose comment was short and sweet, “I’m waiting for you ✌️”.

This is now the second time Ange Postecoglou has signed Iwata, as he previously signed the defender from Oita Trinita months before the managers move to Paradise. It seems Ange also got Iwata for a bargain, as his fee was reportedly less than £1 million.

Iwata is expected to arrive in Scotland at some point next week, and join training soon after. Like Ange’s other recent signings, we will likely see Iwata gradually eased into the team through match action.
