Tomorrow’s starting XI picks itself but if Brendan Rodgers cannot call upon skipper Callum McGregor, could Daniel Kelly slot into the midfield at Tynecastle. I’m in no position to tell Brendan how to do his job. Still, the side that started the midweek rout of Dundee has surely got to be the same side that starts at Tynecastle tomorrow barring any injuries, which unfortunately might be likely with McGregor a doubt with a slight injury. However, there is still a high chance he will make it, let’s hope so.
That first half of football we witnessed against Dundee was up there with the best we’ve seen in a while, and every player played their part.
We were ferocious, we were clinical and ruthless, we had fluency, and it was great to watch. The players all looked in sync with each other and things are looking more positive on the park for a pleasant change.
We can’t interrupt that rhythm, especially at a venue as tough as Tynecastle. So we must keep the tempo going by sticking with the same starting XI that performed so well on Wednesday night.
If Cal doesn’t make it tomorrow, would you take a chance on Daniel Kelly?
As had been well documented McGregor is doubtful for tomorrow’s vital clash at Tynecastle. It’s still hopeful he will be fit to play, but we’ve got to be planning for his absence just incase.
If Cal fails to make it, the armband will undoubtedly go to Cameron Carter Vickers. His place in midfield though will be more of a head-scratcher.
The sensible money would be on Paulo Bernardo taking his place, but one name that can’t be discounted is that of young Daniel Kelly.
Sure he’s inexperienced at only 18 with only two full appearances for the first team, with both of those coming as a substitute. Still, he showed on Wednesday night that he has the mentality and ability to play for the first team.
Yes his appearance came against a Dundee side who were already beaten, but he still stood up and made himself known, and scored a good goal in the process.
He’s highly regarded and big things are expected of Daniel. Tynecastle may be a pressure cooker of a place for a youngster to start their first game for the club, especially in such a vital game, but that’s how heroes are made.
Look at the likes of David Marshall and John Kennedy at the Nou camp in 2004. both were young and inexperienced that night, but their ability and mental strength got them through it.
That old saying if you’re good enough you’re old enough is correct. That applies to young Daniel. I would have no hesitation in handing him a start at Tynecastle tomorrow.
