Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon comments after signing Celtic goalkeeper

The day after Celtic signed the former England goalkeeper Joe Hart from Tottenham, another English club, Tranmere Rovers have confirmed the signing of Ross Doohan on a season long loan from Celtic.

The promising young goalkeeper of course was on loan at Dundee United last season and Micky Mellon was the Tannadice boss at the time before moving to Tranmere. Doohan will now meet up with his new Tranmere teammates ahead of the season opener against Walsall.

Ross Doohan recently signed a contract extension at Celtic so is clearly part of the longer term plans and a season in English football will give him valuable experience.

Tranmere boss Mellon told the club’s official website: “Ross is a great signing, and he will provide further competition due to Scotty’s injury. He is a talented goalkeeper, and we are delighted he has joined us for the season.

“Together, with Joe, we have two fantastic goalkeepers ahead of the new season. I worked with him at Dundee United towards the end of last season, he has huge potential, and he signed a new contract at Celtic recently because they rate him so highly.

“He is ready to take the next step in his career, so I am delighted we have an excellent all-round goalkeeper and a good person to add to the group.

“To work with Joe Murphy and Lee Jones, who is an excellent goalkeeping coach, it is a great fit for Ross, and he will provide great competition. We are very grateful to Celtic for allowing us to take on loan one of their fantastic prospects.”

Best of luck to Ross for his season long loan at Tranmere.
