Transfer Latest – Austrian centre-back on Celtic’s radar

Celtic are reportedly monitoring the situation of Austrian centre-back Flavius Daniliuc.

That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who have claimed that the Bhoys are in the mix for the 6’2 defender who can play multiple positions across the backline. Brendan Rodgers has spoken about the need for more quality since his return to the club this time last year and has yet to be furnished with those assets that he so desires.

Despite winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup last term, the Irishman had to guide the team through some really sticky patches throughout the duration of the season and had to ask the same core of players to go to the well continuously, as the new recruits weren’t up to scratch on the whole. Admittedly young and aspiring, many of last summer’s signings may well be good, steady players in a few years time; however for now, the squad needs closer to the finished article moving ahead.

Daniliuc certainly has pedigree and credibility in this department, as the former Bayern Munich under-21 player has had spells at Real Madrid, Salernitana and most recently RB Salzburg. So in this respect, he’s definitely had experience in and around the top-level of European football at times and at 23, is at a good age to really progress his career and kick-on somewhere like Celtic Park.

As always, whether or not the interest from Celtic is something that is solid enough to stand up or perhaps just being mentioned as one who has been scouting the player, remains to be seen. The fanbase are all eagerly awaiting to see who the club bring in this transfer window to help bolster the squad for next season, after shelling out once again in phenomenal fashion for season tickets to see the club progress both on and off the field.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
