Transfer Latest: Celtic back in for Dylan Reid amid strong English interest

Celtic’s pursuit of St Mirren’s highly rated teenage midfielder Dylan Reid is back on after the player rejected a move to Celtic in July in order to continue his development in Paisley where there would be more first team opportunities this season.

The two clubs had already reached agreement for a £125,000 deal but Reid made the call to remain at Saints where he had assurances from manager Stephen Robinson about being in his first team plans.

Many could see the sense in the 17 year old’s decision to remain at St Mirren for football reasons as first team football in the cinch Premiership was weighed up against playing for the Celtic B Team in the Lowland League. However the flip side was obviously passing up the chance to sign for the biggest and most successful club in Scotland, the Champions Celtic.

However as the transfer window gets to the business end Mark Hendry at Football Scotland is reporting that the move could be back on and that Dylan Reid could sign for Celtic this week.

The journalist confirms that Celtic have made another move for the teenager, who was left out of the St Mirren squad at the weekend for their win over Hibs, and also reveals that there is now strong interest in the top prospect from south of the border. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out ahead of the window spamming shut on Thursday night.
