Transfer Latest: Celtic linked with South Korean Song Min-kyu

It didn’t take long after Ange Postecoglou said he was in the market to recruit another attacking midfielder in the January transfer window to help carry the load currently on the shoulders of Tom Rogic and David Turnbull.

After Ange Postecoglou mentioned about reinforcements again in January following the loss of Tom Rogic to injury, Celtic have today been linked with South Korean winger, Song Min-kyu (via Daily Record).

Song, who has recently moved to current club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors from Pohang Steelers, has a few teams vying for his signature, amongst these are Udinese of Italy and Turkish giants Fenerbache. It’s no wonder though, as the 22 year-old has he recently made his international debut – gaining five caps altogether since July.

A snip at just £1.5 million, the left-winger could be seen as good value for money by any of his prospective buyers. Celtic are consistently trying to get more value for money in the transfer market, whilst viewing the markets of the East as possible sources of talent.

The Club have a significant history of buying players from this part of the world, with varying success. Without a doubt the most famous would be Shunsuke Nakamura, whilst more recently we have acquired Kyogo Furuhashi who has set the team alight with his displays since arriving from Vissel Kobe in the summer window.

Ange did say it was a market that he may go back to when the winter window opens, as he tries to construct the rest of a considerable rebuild on this Hoops squad. As current as last week, Ange was linked with a move for Japanese forward, Daizen Maeda, who has been in top form in Japan of late.

With the manager casting his eye far and wide for reinforcements, it’s safe to say Celtic could be in for a very interesting makeover during the tenure of the Greek-Aussie, Postecoglou.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
