Transfer Latest – Celtic looking to sign Polish U21 defender Maik Nawrocki

Celtic are apparently in discussions with Legia Warsaw over the possible transfer of Poland U21 defender, Maik Nawrocki. After having cherry-picked their best defender merely a couple of summer’s ago, in the form of right-back, Josip Juranovic, it would seem the club have returned to what they view as fertile ground.

Croatian international Juranovic was a smash-hit during his short spell in Glasgow’s East End and he moved not long after to the Bundesliga with Union Berlin. Although Josip was considerably older than Nawrocki and viewed it as his last opportunity to play in a stronger league and earn more money, the Polish youngster has plenty of development left in him at just 22-years-old.

This comes after Celtic were yet again linked with a move for Dutch Eredivisie central defender, Xavier Mbuyamba. Mbuyamba is currently on the books at Volendam but has attracted attention from various quarters at home in the Netherlands and abroad. That was reported earlier today on The Celtic Star, which you can read here.

There seems to be weight behind the Nawrocki story though, with a source in his homeland being followed up by a report from Stephen McGowan of the Scottish Daily Mail. Sources in Warsaw have told the journalist that both the Hoops and Turkish cracks Galatasary are in the hunt for his signature. Likewise, it has been reported by Polish journalist, Pawel Gołaszewski via Twitter.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
