Transfer Latest – Owen Moffat leaves Celtic to sign 3 year deal at Blackpool

Owen Moffat has today left Celtic to sign a permanent contract with Blackpool with the winger initially joining the Seassiders’ Development Squad.

Both clubs confirmed the transfer today and Blackpool revealed that the 20 year old winger, who leaves Celtic with a League Cup winners medal, will initially link up with the Club’s Development Squad,

Moffat, who was unlikely to see much game-time at Celtic this season, has sighed a three-year contract at Bloomfield Road, which includes an option for a further year.

Owen has been at Celtic most of his life, arriving as a seven year old and he made his first-team debut against Ross County last season – playing his part in that Tony Ralston moment ib Dingwall which helped to turn the tide in the title race. In total Moffat made three first team appearances for Celtic so played his part in the League and League Cup double at a time when Celtic were building a squad under Ange Postecoglou.

“I’m really happy to sign for Blackpool. The Club has been interested for a few weeks now and it’s good to get the deal done,” Moffat told his new club’s official website. “I want to put some good performances in for the Development Squad and see what happens. Hopefully I can push on into the first-team squad.”

Blackpool’s Academy Director Ciaran Donnelly had this to say about his club’s new signing. “Our recruitment team have watched a lot of Owen and he was identified as a player that would be an excellent addition to our Development Squad.

“He’s had an excellent football education at a top club and academy in Celtic and we are really pleased that he has decided to continue his development with us. We are grateful for the excellent co-operation throughout from Celtic, particularly from Darren O’Dea and Academy Director Chris McCart.

“Owen will join up with the squad and be under the guidance of Stephen Dobbie. We are really confident that this is a great fit for all involved.”
