Whisky Galore and a place in Motherwell re-named Ange Road

Ange Postecoglou has made a significant impact since arriving in Scotland to manage Celtic in June 2021 and he’s had his rewards on the park as the team he assembled as the season progressed delivered both the League Cup and the cinch Premiership title in his first season.

Speaking to the latest Open Goal podcast which was released yesterday afternoon, the popular Australian revealed that because he’d previously let slip that he enjoys an occasional wee dram, he’s been inundated with whisky bottles given as presents from appreciative Celtic supporters.

And it seems that this supporters have gone even further, with a street which we think is in Motherwell, having been renamed in the Celtic manager’s honour. That’s a move that anyone passing through from nearby Larkhall is going to take particular exception to, so those in Lanarkshire of a Celtic persuasion should enjoy the tribute while they still can!

“That is so childish. But I love it,” Paul Mitchell said while Kevin C said: “Ha ha, I noticed this the other day when turning into “Ange Road”…”Simple but brilliant” another Hoops fan added. “Haha. We’re on the one road, it may be the Ange road,” was the thoughts of another supporter, who clearly had a certain tune in his head.

On the whisky situation, the Celtic manager, who celebrated his 57th birthday at the weekend with a 9-0 win away to Dundee United, thus making history as the biggest ever away win in the club’s proud, unbroken history dating back to 1888, told Open Goal what’s happened since he let slip that he’s fond of a wee dram now and again.

“It’s one of those things, I just have to be careful what I say because I did say I enjoy a drop and I do to be fair. Every person I see has pretty much got a whisky clanging around in their car and they’re waiting to meet me and say ‘Here’s your whisky'” Ange said.

“If you open my cupboards they are just full of Lego figures that my boys have built and whisky bottles up the back. There’s no chance I’ll drink them all but I do enjoy a nice glass. People are very generous and kind.”

Watch Ange’s latest run-in with the Open Goal boys below and to theRangers fans moaning about why it’s always Ange on these podcasts it’s because he’s either won Manager of the Month or in this case Manager of the Year. Simple really and just like Ange Road also brilliant.
