Former West Ham and Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair has been talking to The Times regarding his regrets at not pushing for a move to Celtic during his career. Sinclair had a long career plying his trade in the English leagues, playing in the top flight for the majority of it. During that time he also became an England international, making 12 appearances for his country and starring at the 2002 World Cup.
Sinclair is known to be an ardent supporter of Celtic and attended his first Glasgow Derby at the start of the month. The former winger was thrilled to watch his team dismantle their city rivals as Celtic blew theRangers away in an outstanding first half performance on their way to a 3-0 victory at Parkhead.
The talkSPORT pundit is also a big fan of current Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou’s style of play and has stated he would love to have played under the Australian. He is also impressed by two of Celtic’s summer recruits, Jota and Kyogo, stating the Portuguese star has the game that would make him a success in the Premier League, although he would rather the winger signed up permanently with Celtic.
“I’d love to be a winger in the modern era. But I’d especially love to play in Ange’s team. Jota is unbelievable, a privilege to watch. I hope for a permanent deal. He quite comfortably has the game for the Premier League, but we don’t want him to go.
“Kyogo is brave, tenacious, can play centre forward or wing, doesn’t mind getting kicked, doesn’t mind failing, doesn’t hide. That’s a player with bottle.
“He’s a finisher and he’s humble. He perfectly fits the club’s philosophy, epitomised by the night he picked up the rubbish at the side of the pitch when he was substituted.”
Sinclair also spoke about having previously turned out at Celtic Park while playing for West Ham, although as it was only in a friendly game he unfortunately never got to experience the stadium at its atmospheric best. However, after attending the match against theRangers back on 2 February, he finally got to witness how special a match at Paradise is when the stadium is at full capacity and the fans are in full voice.
“I’d played at Parkhead in a West Ham friendly but it was next to empty. Against (the)Rangers, it was rocking. Insane. It made me wish I’d done more to force a move to Celtic.”
Sinclair certainly had the ability during his playing days to have worn the famous hoops but unfortunately for both sides, the move never transpired. He is very vocal on his love of Celtic in the media, especially on talkSPORT which can often portray our club in a negative manner with other pundits on the station often having digs at us.
Keep it up Trevor, you will always be welcome at Celtic Park and hopefully you will get to experience many more special nights in Glasgow.
