Tricheur means Cheat – Will UEFA take action against Rennes keeper and blundering referee?

EVERYTHING CELTIC pretty much sums up what everyone watching the sending off incident in Rennes last night thought. It’s a perfect summary though so well worth noting.

Let’s take a closer look at the Bayo sending off.

* Ref sees incident, plays on.
* Keeper rolls around holding head but replay shows no contact to head whatsoever.
* Ref checks head after appeals from Rennes, red card… what’s he seen from GK to convince him?!

Absolute joke.

That’s the first part (see below).

Everything Celtic continues with this spot on analysis in part 2 of their social media post…

* Ref plays on
* No signal from linesman
* No contact to head
* GK rolls around holding head
* Ref checks ‘head injury’
* Apparently sees enough ‘evidence’ on said head he didn’t initially to show a red.
* No consulting linesman
* Red
* What changed from his initial decision?…

Neil Lennon has confirmed that Bayo was distraught after receiving a second yellow card and that while the club is strict on discipline, the striker nevertheless has his full support. Clearly the manager is of the same opinion as Everything Celtic, you and me – that their keeper cheated and the Spanish referee Jose Maria Sanchez blundered badly.

Here’s the Celtic manager’s take on the refereeing mistakes that cost Celtic a blatant penalty and saw his side reduced to ten men in such bizarre circumstances.

If that happened in a domestic game you would expect the compliance officer to cite the the player who cheated – the Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy – and offer a two match suspension. Anyone know the EUFA rules for these situations?

As for that referee, he should hang his head in shame after that woeful performance and surely he will not be refereeing again at this level?

He should have awarded the penalty to Ryan Christie, it was clear-cut and obvious but referees do occasionally make these kind of mistakes, as we all know well. However our biggest criticism of him relates to the second booking of Bayo and the manner in which he changed his mind and clearly seeing that there was no contact with the cheating keeper’s head.

The French word for a cheat is Tricheur and that is exactly what that Rennes keeper is.
