Tully, Gallagher, Nicholas and now Wellings and Charlie is going to be another top Celtic Star

Tully, Gallagher, Nicholas, Charlies who shone brightly wearing the Hoops – the latter admittedly only in his first spell at the club. Now there’s another Charlie who was signed By Celtic from Bristol City in the summer who is about to make a major impression wearing the green and white Hoops. And Charlie Wellings has already started with two classy goals in her SWPL debut for Fran Alonso’s Celtic FC Women’s side at Aberdeen last Sunday.

Check out the goals for yourselves…

The Celtic Star spoke to Charlie Wellings during the week and started by asking her why she didn’t take that stoppage time penalty that could have given her a hat-trick. Tomorrow Wellings will lead the line for Fran Alonso’s side against the 14-in-a-row Scottish Champions Glasgow City looking for three points that will give Celtic a huge title boost even at this early stage of the season.

“You’re always going to play them at some point. But for me personally, it’s a good benchmark to see where we’re at and see what we need to work on,” Charlie said. “As a forward you always want to be scoring goals, but I’m not really a player that thinks about it too much.

“I go into the games just wanting to do the best that I can and help the team. It’s a credit to the girls as well because without them I couldn’t score my goals,” the 23 year old goalscorer said.

Glasgow City suffered a Champions League defeat in midweek and are clearly unused to losing two games in a few days, so maybe Celtic have caught them at the right time this time around?

“They’re obviously coming to win the game and kick back after a defeat,” Charlie said. “We fully expect that, and we know the players they have in their team and the quality. We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we believe in ourselves.”

Another new summer signing Clarissa Larisey was introduced half-way through second half at Aberdeen and her forward play really blended together with Wellings. “Clarissa came on quite late into the game, but had such a massive impact,” Welling noted. “She was running at players, assisted me once as well, and got the penalty. She’s someone that I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with.”
