Unique Angle from a game that could have finished 6-3 to Celtic

A well earned three points, but worryingly we were exposed more than a few times. Thank heavens for Kasper Schmeichel. Celtic too missed chances in a match that could have finished 6-3…

Yesterday was a satisfactory day as we extended our lead at the top while winning by three goals to nil against Hibs at Celtic Park.

If you didn’t see the game and seen the scoreline afterwards, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a straightforward comfortable victory, but it didn’t exactly tell the entire story as we rode our luck on more than one occasion.

Hibs could have taken a shock lead after some dire defending in the opening minutes of the game, but thanks to the superb reactions of Kasper Schmeichel we remained intact, and it wouldn’t be the first time that the Dane would come to our rescue during the 90 plus minutes.

The fact Kasper was named man of the match is proof the game wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

Arne Engels opened the scoring with a well taken chance in front of goal in the sixth minute, but even after we went in front those defensive frailties were exposed on a few occasions, but thanks to that man Kasper, we took a one nil lead into the interval.

An own goal forced after a great Adam Idah header across goal settled the nerves, but we still gave a couple of chances away much to the annoyance of the supporters and manager alike.

Kyogo scored a fantastic goal with five minutes remaining to make the scoreline look more straightforward, but it didn’t mask the several errors made in the game, too many for Brendan Rodgers liking.

I’m not having a pop, and I’m delighted by the result and our season so far, but we can’t continue to give the opposition so many chances. Weakened side or not, we must be more focused and alert at the back.

Adam Idah is congratulated

Worth mentioning that Adam Idah, Luke McCowan and Liam Scales all should have scored for Celtic so the hard luck stories about missed chances works both ways. It ended 3-0 to Celtic but it could quite as easily finished up 6-3 to Brendan Rodgers side on a day when they quite clearly other things on their minds.
