VAR looking at two penalty incidents and that Kyogo booking

We have been quite fortunate this season having been awarded five spot kicks in the first 11 games while conceding none. But that doesn’t mean we can’t complain about certain decisions going against us, far from it.

We of course were awarded one and correctly only after VAR intervened on Wednesday night against St Mirren. Unfortunately David Turnbull hit the post with the spit kick, just as Reo Hatate had done previously at Tynecastle.

Yet on Wednesday night Celtic could have and should have had another penalty as Kyogo was clearly fouled in the box of the game against the Buddies. The St Mirren player clearly shoved Kyogo out the way using plenty of force. Anywhere else on the park it’s a foul, one hundred percent. Kyogo himself was cautioned for much less in the first half.

It was of course missed by John Beaton, and wasn’t even picked up by VAR. Very convenient eh?

Strangely enough Mr Beaton awarded a penalty for theRangers on Sunday with the Ibrox side trailing Hearts late on in the game. After being made aware by the VAR team he had a second look and awarded the spot kick. The challenge in question was a penalty in my opinion, but was much less clearcut that the one than Kyogo was denied.

So that begs the question, why didn’t VAR intervene? I think we all know why. Giving theRangers two spot kicks in one game is one thing, but giving Celtic two in the same game? Not a chance.

Brendan Rodgers incidentally wasn’t up for talking about the penalty incident in midweek or the booking Kyogo picked up, for being blocked.
