Vasilis Barkas looks to the future at Utrecht after disastrous spell at Celtic

Vasilis Barkas has taken to social media to post a picture of himself in during Utrecht training after his move from Celtic Park earlier this month. Barkas, it could be argued, challenges the worst of the worst in Hoops signings in the club’s modern history. Even – dare I say – a bigger flop than Raphael Scheidt!

With the interest in Barkas on a permanent transfer low and him being on a considerable wage with a transfer fee to match, the best we could have hoped for was someone to take us off of him temporarily – so we can free up stagnant wages that could go towards strengthening Ange’s squad this summer.

Utrecht were the team to bite and agree a package that was reasonable enough for the Celtic heirarchy to let the Greek goalie leave. He will no be hoping he can put his awful experience in Scotland behind him and focus on regaining his confidence and general prowess in the goal moving forward.

And that’s just what he’s posted below his Instagram pic, with the hashtag: #keeplookingforward, as he appears focussed and poised in his new surroundings. It’s a shame it worked out the way it did for Vasilis during his two years at Celtic. However, some work out, some don’t; but then again, some are like £5 million goalkeepers who can’t catch a cross!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. Someone clearly did not do their homework on Barkas. He has never played at such ahigh level club before where it is expected that every game is won.
He wasin way over his head and also not good enough.
