Video: ’67 Heat Of Lisbon Display, Four Years To The Day Since Celtic Secure Unbeaten League Campaign

21 May is a date with some special games on the Celtic calendar. In 1979 ten men won the league, in 2003 the Hoops played in the UEFA Cup Final, and in 2017 Brendan Rodgers’ side completed an unbeaten league campaign.

The most recent encounter is the focus of this article. Celtic defeated Hearts 2-0 at Paradise, with goals coming from Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong. The victory ensured that the Hoops were league invincibles and set a new world record of 106 points (eclipsed by Red Star Belgrade this week). A grand stand finish to the campaign was also set up, which resulted in the completion of an unprecedented Invincible Treble.

The match, on this day in 2017, had a special build up due to it being close to the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions’ European Cup triumph. The scenes before the match were quite extraordinary, as the Green Brigade created a superb full stadium display.

Scenes such as these serve as inspiration ahead of next season.
