8 January seems to be something of a date full of outrageously good Celtic goals. Earlier, we wrote an article about Kenny Dalglish’s amazing volley at Tannadice in 1977, which set Celtic on their way to a 2-1 victory over Dundee United. However, there are many more blistering strikes on 8 January to thrill the memory! Photo above is the Celtic fans celebrating the goal…
Here’s the utter howitzer by King Kenny…

And just six years later, on that very same day (8 January), Murdo MacLeod unleashed this thunderous strike to give Celtic a 1-0 win over St Mirren…

Fast forward to 1997 and Jackie McNamara absolutely rifled a a long range effort into the same top corner as Dalglish. This time, the goal was against Kilmarnock in 6-0 win at Celtic Park.

And had a few more hours elapsed before Celtic’s trip to Motherwell on 7 January 1984, then there would have been yet another belter arrowed into the top corner. Frank McGarvey nestled this won into the stanchion, whilst it’s also well worth looking at Willie McStay’s two footed, full blooded tackle in the lead up to his brother, Paul, scoring Celtic’s second. Times have changed and that challenge would never be allowed today.
