Video: Brendan Rodgers not scared of losing Matt O’Riley

Brendan Rodgers has refuted the suggestion that Matt O’Riley is going anywhere in the next transfer window which opens up in a matter of weeks now. The Irishman was asked the question by Mark Benstead of Sky Sports earlier this afternoon and was steadfast in his view that we need to add more quality to the group, as opposed to taking it away.

It’s a strong rebuttal from the Celtic manager and one which will have the Hoops supporters sitting a little bit easier in their seats’ tonight after seeing the news break earlier today that Matty is attracting interest from the Italian giants, Inter Milan, as well as Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid – whom Matt played brilliantly against in the UEFA Champions League group stages this year too – ahead of the January transfer window.

Rodgers will know himself of course that their will be a natural cycle on players like the former MK Dons man and he will follow the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Moussa Demeble in leaving Celtic Park for very high fees one day. For now though, as the boss has stated, Matt is very much a part of the plans moving forward and will be integral in helping rejuvenate our flailing campaign at present and get us back firing on all cylinders again.

It’s been a dreadful few weeks for the Bhoys lately, but with a chance to rectify some issues in the transfer market soon, combined with the ability to put our recent blip behind us and win our against Livingston and Dundee – then follow that up with a win over our main title rivals at Celtic Park at the end of this month – opportunities are plentiful to make things right and put the ship back on course once more.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
