Video: Celtic man on Target – “An unbelievable strike from Luca Connell”

Watch Celtic’s out-on loan star Luca Connell score a tremendous long range goal for Queen’s Park against Albion Rovers in the 3-0 away win on Coatbridge last night…

The former Bolton first team star will not have any difficulty playing in the Scottish League Two and he’ll be glad to get some much needed game-time in as he sees out the season at Queen’s Park ahead of what will be a critical season for the Irish Under 21 star next year.

Many Celtic Supporters have argued that Connell could and should have been given his chance at Celtic this season but with the pressures on the club this year more than ever and with such a big squad that was unlikely to happen. Indeed many players have been stuck in limbo due to the restriction on playing at development level due to the ongoing pandemic.

John Kennedy has sent Connell, Ewaun Henderson (to Dunfermline) and one or two others out to get game-time in competitive football matches and that can only be a good thing for the players and indeed the club.

Connell also featured for the Ireland Under 21s last week with manager Jim Crawford pleased with the Celtic player’s performance. “I know Luca from my time as under-18 manager and he’s a player with really good potential. He was on the crest of wave playing first-team games at Bolton, rightly attracting a lot of interest.

“He went to Celtic and had a couple of injuries. They weren’t playing too many games at under-21 level, instead arranging in-house matches,” Crawford added, as reported by Glasgow Times.

“At his age, it’s vital to be playing competitive games, whether that’s under-23s with your club in the UK or first-team games out on loan.

“It’s huge because you need to be challenged. He made his debut for Queen’s Park on Saturday and this international on Friday will get another few minutes under his belt to help for the rest of the season. I think we’ve a lot more to see from Luca.”
