Video: Charlie Mulgrew’s sensational Emilio Izaguirre story

Charlie Mulgrew has recalled a brilliant story from his time at Celtic relating to the excellent Emilio Izaguirre. The Honduran’s energy and love for the club resonated with supporters even if his English wasn’t great at the beginning of his time at the club. Now, speaking to Open Goal at the Hydro, Mulgrew has revealed a sensational story about how a Celtic nickname was misinterpreted by Izzy.

Mulgrew spent six years at Celtic, making 207 appearances and scoring 28 goals before departing in the summer of 2016 as Brendan Rodgers took over. Izaguirre meanwhile remained at Celtic until 2017, before returning a year later for a further year.

Izzy meanwhile left the club after 271 appearances along with 7 Premiership titles, 3 Scottish Cups and 2 League Cups. During his time, he won numerous individual accolades before Kieran Tierney succeeded him as Celtic’s left back.
