Video: Heartbreak for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard in U21s Quarter Final

Odsonne Edouard and his French U21 teammates have suffered an agonising defeat in the UEFA U21 Euros against The Netherlands thanks to a 93rd minute winner from Myron Boadu. The AZ Alkamaar striker’s goal means that Edouard’s last game for L’Espoirs ends in defeat as they are eliminated from the tournament.

They had the lead in the first half thanks to Dayot Upamecano but the second-half brace from Boadu means that the tournament favourites are out. Edouard played 76 minutes before being subbed for Amine Gouiri.

With France chasing a winner, they committed bodies forward but a blistering counter-attack saw Justin Kluivert’s cross find Boadu, who won the game for the Dutch, sealing their progress to the last four.

Edouard notched 16 goals in 13 games for the French U21s, he will now likely see his progression into the top team with Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud all in the twilight of their careers. This may be part of the reason that he sees his career moving on from Celtic in the summer, with a whole host of clubs likely to have interest in bringing him to their clubs, namely Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
