A question I had in mind was ‘have Celtic ever played against Lille?’ Certainly, I couldn’t recall any encounter between the two sides and on further investigation it seems that we have never met. This is quite unusual considering the number of years that both clubs have been involved in European competition.
There is a Celtic connection with the French club though and that can be found at Old Trafford, when Henrik Larsson scored a superb header during a victory for the Red Devils over Lille in the UCL group stages of 2007.
I remember watching the goal live and jumping out of my chair, something that I never do unless Celtic score. Forgive me, after all it was the King of Kings I was cheering for!
