Video: Highlights as our Ghirls dump the Rangers out of another cup competition

What’s not to enjoy about this as Fran Alonso continues his impressive run against theRangers – think it’s six wins and just one defeat – and of course yesterday’s result at the early kick-off at the Penny Cars stadium in Airdrie in the Scottish Cup tie means that the Hoops have now knocked theRangers out of both the League Cup and the Scottish Cup this season. Fran Alonso has sets his sights on a Cup double in what would be a season to remember for this talented young Celtic side who yesterday were without top goalscorer Charlie Wellings through injury. Goalkeeper Chloe Logan also missed out and arrived at game yesterday on crutches after damaging her knee on Thursday night.

Yet goals from Clarissa Larisey and Chloe Craig – it went in off her nose – gave Celtic the win and listen to the roars as our goals go in. Outstanding! And having had a brief look we can tell you that they were not happy on their various forums with the manager’s resignation being called for despite their near perfect season in the league. Losing to Celtic hurts them badly – delicious!

Celtic incidentally have been drawn away to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup quarter finals, with the game scheduled for Sunday 3 April.

Here are yesterday’s highlights as Celtic beat theRangers 2-1 in the Scottish Cup alongside some exclusive match day photography on The Celtic Star.

“There’s no better feeling than playing against Rangers and winning,” match winner Chloe Craig said to Celtic TV after the game at the Penny Cars Stadium. “After Thursday we wanted to show a reaction and show that we’re still out there fighting for titles, fighting for the league, and I think we’ve done that.”

Craig wasn’t prepared to let that disgraceful challenge she suffered on Thursday night against Glasgow City keep her out of yesterday’s Scottish Cup tie.

“It’s something you just need to get on with, a bit of tape pre-match and apart from that, just a few painkillers,” she said. “You can’t not play for these Ghirls and for this team, especially on an occasion like playing Rangers. There was no chance I was sitting out for that one.”

“I knew we would fight, I knew we would compete and I knew this would be the biggest challenge of the season so far,” Fran Alonso stated. “Everything was testing, but if we are good at something it’s facing challenges and we all did that for Chloe Logan – I think the Ghirls all over-performed.

“It was very difficult, (the)Rangers are an outstanding team and brought on players from the bench who are incredible. We competed well and deserved the win because of that.”
