Video: Highlights show why Celtic shouldn’t write off £5m flop just yet

We live in a world where most signings will be written off if they don’t immediately excel, but it’s easy to forget that they are humans and it often takes time to settle in a new country.

There’s no doubt that Vasilis Barkas has struggled since his move in the summer that reportedly cost £5m, while confidence is so important in his position so that can take time to build it back up again.

Usually Celtic don’t have that time to give players as every game is so crucial, but the league is now gone so the rest of the season will be about seeing who should be kept on for next year.

The club already know what they have in Scott Bain so the Greek keeper may benefit from a run of games, and it’s also easy to forget how good he looked in Greece before his move in the summer:

He looks so commanding in 1v1 situations and he’s making some great saves with some really strong hands, so even those efforts that he can’t put out of play are going to a place where an easy rebound isn’t going to happen.

There’s clearly a great player in there and perhaps we may not see that side of him at Celtic, but it’s worth telling him that he’s 1st choice and giving him that backing for the rest of the season before writing him off and moving him on in the summer.
